Gluten Free Brownies were one of our first products. As a new gluten free bakery, I wanted to put my best foot forward and my brownies had always gotten rave reviews. They were actually named one of the years best gluten free desserts by Real Simple Magazine one year!
What could be better than trying them out on some friends at a dinner party, right? I took a bunch of brownies to a party with a group of friends, many of whom had young kids. One friend suggested a taste test between my Fudge Brownie and some Betty Crocker brownies that another friend brought. “Bring it on!” I thought.
You can imagine my shock as several people said they preferred the Betty Crocker brownie! Unbelievable! How could a box mix possibly compete with my decadent chocolatey fudge brownies? As I was reeling and trying to take this in another friend made a simple, but obvious, point.
The two brownies weren’t really comparable. The box brownies were made by busy Moms in a hurry to put something super sweet together for their kids. Mine were made with two types of gourmet chocolate, dutch process cocoa and all natural ingredients. They weren’t aiming for the same audience and really shouldn’t be compared at all. As I thought about that I realized he was right and was greatly relieved.
Ever since then, our brownies have been one of our top sellers and still get rave reviews from everyone who tries them.
We have a Fudge Brownie and a Walnut Brownie. You can’t go wrong with either one! But, if you prefer a brownie from a box, they might not be for you!
